UNLEASH IT: AT CHELINDA THAT HAS ACCESS TO RICH POCKETS OF WILDLIFE ENDEMIC TO THIS REGION.
Chelinda Camp is located within the Nyika National Park, Malawi's largest park. It is a wild, untouched and remote upland area, boasting the distinction as being the only big game Afro-montane area in south central Africa. The vistas are of high-altitude grassland, isolated hills with evergreen forest pockets and the Nyika Plateau. In summer, Nyika is a botanists' delight with masses of wild alpine flowers: including 11 localised orchid species, exquisite dieramas, gladioli, protea and kniphofia.
The camp has two types of accommodation. Four chalets each with two bedrooms, bathrooms, a lounge, dining area with fireplace, and small kitchen are ideal for private groups with their own guide; private meals can be enjoyed in the chalet. Six twin-bedded en-suite rooms with either a bath or shower are also available; guests here take meals in the nearby main area, which has a large dining, bar and lounge area complete with comfortable furnishings and an inviting fireplace.
Core game viewing is in the famous Nyika Grasslands surrounding the camp and quantities and species will vary with time of year - Crayshaw’s zebra, roan antelope, eland, southern reedbuck, bushpig, warthog, various duiker species, bushbuck, leopard, serval, and spotted hyaena. Leopard can be seen in the daytime owing to the temperate climate. Wonderful birding with a host of easily seen specials - red winged francolin, pallid harrier, augur buzzard, mountain cisticola, mountain marsh whydah, blue swallow (seasonal: August to April) and Denham’s bustard.
Activities at Chelinda Camp revolve around day and night nature drives which explore the rolling hills and patches of evergreen forest of the Nyika Plateau. Nature walks and mountain biking are also very popular.
Birders will be pleased to know that some 400 bird species can be found around Chelinda Camp.
