The Review

Shumba Camp is perfectly situated to take advantage of the game and predator concentrations of the Busanga Plains, being situated as it is within close proximity to permanent water and having easy access to a mix of seasonal and permanent floodplains. View game from the comfort of your tent or main deck, while relaxing with a beer under the fig trees.

Stay
Shumba Camp comprises six spacious luxury safari tents on raised platforms with spectacular views of the surrounding plains. The rooms are large, en-suite with both indoor and outdoor showers. The dining and bar area is elevated so as to take in this vista and each morning's sunrise. Many meals are prepared and cooked on the fire in front of the guests enhancing the safari experience.

Wildlife
The Busanga Plains are extensive floodplains interspersed with tree-islands and edged with miombo woodland. As the dry season progresses and the floodplains dry up, large herds of puku, lechwe and wildebeest begin to move onto the plains to graze, followed by other plains game ranging from zebra and buffalo to roan and oribi. Predators include resident prides of lion, cheetah and occasionally wild dog. Kafue boasts 491 bird species, with Rosy-throated Longclaws, the rare Crowned Cranes and other specials found here.

Experience
Guests have the option of game drives in and around the Plains and night drives provide the added excitement of the nocturnal wonders of the area.

With a maximum of 12 guests in the camp at any one time, great emphasis is placed on the "guided" experience - being led by qualified, enthusiastic people with in-depth knowledge of the area and its wildlife.
