The Six Senses Resort

After the shock of landing - you think you're coming down in the water, as the runway starts only meters away from the edge of the ocean - an idyllic holiday unfolds. A short 10-min drive to the Six Senses resort introduces you to a mile of white beach, luxury villas, and the perfect antidote to the stress of everyday busy life.

We Love
  • The sense of space in the resort is amazing. The resort is brilliantly laid out, relaxing and comfortable.
  • In comparison to places like Bali, Phuket or Maldives, Six Senses Con Dao offers value & quality which makes the entire experience all the more enjoyable.
  • They have a pillow menu with all sorts of different pillows and scents to choose from.
Need to Know
  • There are 2 types of hotel villas, single floor and 2 floors. The ones with 2 floors are bigger, very impressive at the outset, but not really practical on a day to day basis as you have to exit the house when you want to go to the bathroom located on the ground floor.
  • Free bicycles are provided for you to ride around at ease without having to walk too far or ring up a buggy each time you need to leave the villa.
  • Be sure to ask the Butler what the daily activities are as they are not volunteered.

The Review

The resort is indeed a "splendid isolation", located on a pristine private beach, with wooden villas and a butler assigned to guests. Our two-storey oceanfront villa has seating areas, outdoor shower, vast bath and bedroom upstairs with a balcony looking out over the South China Sea. There is an indoor wine cellar and dinner on the deck with a private chef if requested - the villas lack for nothing.

Eat
The hotel has several options for eating. We ate at all the venues throughout our stay and the food was always excellent. We did the Vietnamese night, the Vietnamese Hot Pot and on the third night the "An Evening by the Cellar", which was a 4 course meal with wine pairings. The food and wine were amazing. The Elephant Bar has an amazing selection of cocktails to choose from - something for everyone! There is also an excellent selection of wines - and a Sommelier at hand to provide pairing suggestions.

Dive
There is not much on Con Dai itself to explore, because the island is only recently developed for tourism, being for a long time a place to lock out prisoners opposed to the various regimes. But Con Dao offers divers a unique opportunity to explore the amazing variety of underwater life. In addition to scuba diving, the hotel also have an assortment of activities lined up ranging from surfing, rainforest hiking, island hopping, yoga and cooking classes and even outdoor movie screenings. We took the snorkelling and turtles watching tour which was worth every penny, and we strongly recommend it.

Safety
The resort and island are extremely safe. I spent every morning going for a run along the rarely used roads, followed by some quality time in the well set up Gym, followed by a swim in the ocean. There is a beautifully sandy beach of over one km long and the ocean is beautiful and safe to take a dip, or to go for a long open water swim.

One More Thing: We watched several turtles nesting, and the experience was unparalleled! But mostly it's the seclusion of the island and serenity of Six Senses, coupled with superb cuisine and service, and beautiful beach running into wonderfully warm waters that makes a trip to Con Dao so unforgettable.
