Begin in Delhi, the bustling capital of India. During private touring, experience highlights such as Jama Masjid, the Red Fort and a rickshaw ride through the bazaars of Old Delhi. Watch as believers congregate on the ghats (stone steps) along the banks of the holy Ganges River to perform ritual ablutions. Explore Varanasi’s old town, with its ancient universities and renowned silk shops. Also, take an excursion to Sarnath, believed to be the site of the Buddha’s first sermon. Fly to Kathmandu, located in the foothills of the Himalayas. The Kathmandu Valley comprises the three ancient cities of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur, which were once independent states ruled by the Malla kings from the 12th to the 18th centuries. Fly to Delhi and then transfer by land to Agra to experience the awe-inspiring beauty of Taj Mahal. Take an elephant ride to the 16th century Amber Fort. Browse bazaars selling textiles, leatherwork, perfume, jewellery and Jaipur’s traditional blue pottery. Explore medieval backstreets and marvel at the luminous saris of indigenous tribal women.
Return to Delhi for overnight, last-minute shopping and connect with your onward flight.
All major international airlines fly to India’s main airports: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Airports tend to be on the outskirts of cities. Pre-paid taxi services and auto-rickshaws are stationed outside the terminus to get you into the city.
