  • Most hotels in Laos and Cambodia accept credit cards and there are ATM machines in the country. However, cash is still king and credit cards something of a novelty item. Bring lots of money or hit the ATMs regularly.

The Review

After a comprehensive tour of Bangkok, you will travel to the Golden Triangle and privately driven to Chiang Mai where you will stay at one of Asia’s most luxurious and atmospheric resorts, surrounded by mountains and lush fields of terraced rice paddies. With your private guide explore the city of Chiang Mai, with a wealth of beautiful and historic Buddhist wats (temples) and the royal family’s Winter Palace. You will have enough time at leisure to browse craft markets or enjoy the resort's spa, cooking school, golf, or pool.

Next fly to Koh Samui, Thailand’s self-styled ‘boutique island’ that boasts some of the best beaches in the region. Stay at one of Thailand's leading luxury resorts and indulge yourself at the spa, swimming, taking cooking classes or yoga lessons. Take a half-day yacht cruise to view the island’s attractions and explore a pristine world of beaches, reefs, rainforest and sunshine.

Continue to Siem Reap for a three-day exploration of Angkor—the ruins of the ancient Khmer empire. Stay at the exclusive Amansara, a peaceful and intimate luxury hotel and spa in the heart of Siem Reap. AwimAway Adventures will arrange for your own expert guide so you have the most educational and comfortable tour possible. Visit important ruins, such as Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, and discover lesser known jungle-covered ruins that are just as awe inspiring.

Getting There

There are no direct flights to Cambodia from the UK, but good connections are available from major Asian destinations. You can fly with Thai Airways to Bangkok, Malaysian Airlines to Kuala Lumpur or British Airways via Hong Kong. From there you can take the budget airline Air Asia or Dragon Air. The total journey time, excluding transit, is about 15 hours.

From Phnom Penh you can take direct flights to Siem Reap, which now operates on daily basis. Direct one-hour flights are now also available from Bangkok.

In Thailand, Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport is the country's major gateway. Practically every airline carrier that flies to Asia also flies into Bangkok. This means there are plenty of services and the competition on the routes helps to keep the ticket prices down.
