Africa
In terms of the weather in Africa, southern Africa gets most of its rainfall in the summer (December – April) and dries out in the cooler months of winter. As the country dries out, animals are forced to congregate around increasingly scarce water holes, which is great for Safari holidays. That is why the best game watching is generally in September & October, just before the rains, but June to August can be quite good too, and the temperature is a lot more comfortable.
In South Africa, the best months for flowers are August and September, and the whale-watching season runs from mid-June to October. The best months to see the Wildebeest migration in Kenya are August and October. If you are visiting Madagascar then the best months are September to November, before the hot rainy season.
Summer (December – April) is a great time to grab a beach holiday but with the local population flocking to resorts, prices can increase by as much as 100%. If you are looking for a self-drive holiday, you would be best to avoid the big rains from the end of March to the end of May.
The best time to take any holidays in Morocco and other areas in Northern Africa are from October to March, as temperatures can reach well above 100F in the summer months and become stiflingly hot even for sun lovers.
