Leadwood Lodge

EXETER PRIVATE GAME RESERVE, SABI SANDS, SOUTH AFRICA

Leadwood Lodge offers a cosy & serene getaway that is completely at peace with the bush. With only three suites carefully distanced from each other, Dulini Leadwood Lodge is ideal for families or parties of friends who want to share their safari experiences without intruding on each other’s privacy. When booked individually or in couples, the number of guests on the game drive vehicle is never more than six.

Sabi Sand Game Reserve is known for the Big Five and other rare animals, such as the cheetah and hyena. Various antelope species, from impala, waterbuck and duiker to kudu, bushbuck and nyala can also be seen, as can giraffe and warthog. However, game drives from Leadwood Lodge indicate that it is the leopard that is the real star of the show, with the area well known for some of the best leopard experiences in Africa.

Night drives are an important part of the game viewing experience at the Leadwood Lodge and provide an opportunity to view many unusual animals, such as the beautifully patterned African civet. Another animal often encountered in night drives is the dwarf mongoose, Africa’s smallest carnivore. Family troops of up to 30 of these little animals live in numerous hiding places in the sides of termite mounds.

When to go There is no bad time to go on safari in the Kruger National Park but the experience may change from month to month. Summer in South Africa, from November to March can be hot and humid but a good time to see lots of beautiful migratory birds. South Africa’s winter, from May to September is dry with cold nights while Spring between September and October is very dry, with hot, dry winds. South Africa rains start end of October until March, with typical afternoon thundershowers in April.
