Phinda Zuka Lodge is like your own private holiday home with welcoming staff at your disposal to create your own African experience. You will have a dedicated game ranger and tracker, as well as your own private vehicle, so you can decide when and where to go for game drives and explore the surrounds at your own pace. With no set timetable or routine, savour the wonders of the bush at your own pace and leisure.
Exclusive and beautifully serviced, Phinda Zuka Lodge is located at the foot of a forested hill, overlooking a waterhole, and consists of a main house and 4 separate bush cottages. The main house includes an indoor sitting and dining areas, a library with internet access and a swimming pool with an extended wooden deck overlooking the surrounding wilderness. Each cottage boasts expansive bedrooms with luxurious ensuite bathrooms, complete with a circular bath chamber, double showers and twin hand basins.
Phinda Zuka Lodge lies in KwaZulu Natal, in Maputaland, in the north-western sector of Phinda Private Game Reserve. The rare sand forest in the northern parts of Phinda is the perfect environment for some of the rarer smaller species. The shy red duiker is found grazing on fallen leaves and fruit and the tiny suni, one of the smallest antelope species, may also be seen. Adventure in the region include guided walks, rhino tracking, bird watching and river boat trips.

Stay Phinda Zuka Lodge offers only four beautiful bush cottages, set 15 metres apart to provide space and privacy. Each cottage features air-conditioned bedrooms, a sitting room with a fireplace and en suite bathrooms, with a circular stone bath chamber. Private verandas overlook a busy waterhole where a diversity of wildlife is regularly seen. Characterised by hues of blue and stone, Zuka’s overall ambiance is that of cool, coastal bush style embodying the sophistication of simplicity.
The Camp Bordered by lush green valleys and densely wooded hills, Phinda Zuka Lodge is ideal for family gatherings and special occasion safaris. It can be booked as an exclusive use lodge or for individual room bookings. The main house includes an interactive kitchen with a dedicated chef and a butler to see to your daily needs, a dining area, a lounge with a library with Internet access and TV, pool and a veranda with a boma.
ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at the Phinda Zuka Lodge, but there are no specific facilities available.
Safari Phinda Private Game Reserve encompasses an impressive 23, 000 hectares (56, 800 acres) of protected wildlife land in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Showcasing one of the continent’s finest game viewing experiences, Phinda is home to Africa’s Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino), as well as 415 bird species. The Phinda Zuka Lodge is particularly well known for close-up sightings of the elegant yet elusive cheetah, as well as the rare black rhino.
Experience Phinda Zuka Lodge comes with its own guide and vehicle, with flexible itineraries. Adventures include game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles, led by professionally trained rangers and Zulu trackers. Location Phinda Zuka Lodge lies within the 56,800 acres of Phinda private Game Reserve, in the Maputaland region of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Neighbours the iSimangaliso/Greater St Lucia Wetland Park – a World Heritage Site – to the east and is only 30 km due west of the white-fringed beaches of the Indian Ocean.
Getting there South Africa’s OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) in Johannesburg, is the major gateway, offering both domestic and international connections. SA Express offer daily scheduled flights from Johannesburg to Richards Bay, followed by a one hour and 30-minutes road transfer to the reserve. Private charters from anywhere in South Africa can be arranged to Phinda’s airstrip. Zuka Lodge is three-hour drive from Durban.
When to go Phinda has a subtropical climate; hot, humid and wet. Summers from September to April are warm. Game viewing is better during the drier months, beginning April when the weather is cool and dry till September. The wildflower season is generally from mid-August to mid-September while whale watching season runs from June to November. South Africa rains start end of October until March, with typical afternoon thundershowers in April.
