Savuti Camp

LINYANTI CONCESSION, LINYANTI, BOTSWANA

Savuti Camp is located on the Savute Channel, which for many years was dry, with wide-open ribbon of grassland through the adjoining woodland. In the recent years, the waters returned, and Savuti Camp now has abundant game that seasonally congregates there. Savuti Camp comprises seven large en-suite canvas-and-thatch rooms that face onto the Savute Channel. There is also a thatched dining area, a plunge pool and large viewing area.

Game concentrations are high around the Savuti Camp, particularly in the winter dry season with excellent sightings of the sought-after aardvark and aardwolf, big ticks on anyone's mammal lists. It also harbours hippo and aquatic life with myriad varieties of waterbirds. Other species include sable antelope, southern giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyaena and wild dog.

Explore the Savute Channel and its environs through day and night game drives, nature walks with a guide (on request), and several well-positioned hides for safe, up-close animal viewing. Savuti Camp's former 'wood-pile hide' in front of camp is now part of the flowing Savute and famous for spectacular elephant viewing in the drier winter months.

Savuti Camp Chobe National Park, Botswana

Location The Savuti Camp is located in a Private Linyanti Concession in Northern Botswana. It is set along Savute Channel, 17km from its source bordering the Chobe National Park to the east. The channel stopped flowing in 1980 and what was a Hippo-filled river, is now wide, open grasslands.

Getting There Maun is the gateway to the Okavango Delta, which is best reached from Johannesburg by a 2-hour international flight. From Maun, fly in to Savuti Airstrip, a 30-minute charter flight in a small aircraft. Savuti Airstrip is towards the north end of the Savuti Channel and is about a 30-minute road transfer to camp. Please note, light aircraft transfers have 15kg luggage restrictions in soft, squashable bags.

When to go Botswana’s winter is during our British summer, and the weather is hot during the day, but it isn't a stifling heat, and cold at night. The summer months (British winter) can be hot and humid and there is a chance of rain. Botswana has one rainy season which runs between mid-December and runs through to mid-March. There is great fishing from March to December, with catches of tiger fish, bream, catfish and tilapia.
