Xudum Delta Lodge is situated on its own private island in one of the Okavango Delta's exclusive wildlife concession. Set along the banks of a sparkling lagoon guarded by a resident family of hippo, the Lodge flawlessly combines the best of this unique riverside landscape. The island, surrounded by permanent and seasonal waterways, offers ample opportunities to explore the waterways by mokoro canoe, walk with a San Bushman or game drives to spot the Big 5 animals.
Situated near the permanent channels of the Delta, Xudum Lodge has only nine safari suites. These split-level suites, with air-conditioning and plunge pool, also offer a unique hideout on the upper level with incredible views over the Delta, perfect for game viewing and afternoon siestas. The main Xudum lodge, also on split-level houses the dining and lounge areas. Food is freshly prepared in full view in the interactive kitchen and served on one of the decks or by the campfire.
Activities from Xudum Delta Lodge focus on exploring the surrounding area. Game drives with an expert guide and tracker form the basis of a guest's experience year-round. These may be augmented with guided walks; a Bushman walk and a seasonal boating or a mokoro activity. Wildlife around Xudum Lodge include giraffe, zebra, lechwe and warthog, which are preyed on by lion, leopard and the endangered African wild dog, providing frequent hold-your-breath moments while on safari.

Stay Xudum Delta Lodge has just nine stylish safari suites, all facing the lagoon. Each Xudum’s air-conditioned suite, designed in contemporary style has a bedroom and sitting area, en-suite bathroom with a bath and an outdoor shower and a plunge pool. Located at upper level is a hideout with incredible views of the Delta, perfect for game-view, an afternoon siesta, and it can be used to sleep out under the stars. There is a complimentary laundry service.
The Camp The main area of the Xudum Delta Lodge, also has a split-level design to take in the incredible views of the Delta. These houses the lounge areas and dining room with an open kitchen, where experienced chef prepares full three-course meals. Meals are usually had in the dining room or in the boma, around the roaring camp fire. A well-stocked safari shop has a good selection of wildlife books about the area.
ChildCare Children of 6 years and above are welcome to stay at the Xudum Delta Lodge. Xudum offers the WILDchild programme, with fun activities for youngsters. Children aged 6 to 12 can participate in regular game drives at the lodge manager’s discretion. The minimum age for bush walks is 16. Suites can accommodate only one extra bed.
Wildlife The area around the Xudum Delta Lodge is home to an assortment of species adapted to the semi-aquatic lifestyle, such as the elegant red lechwe and shy sitatunga. Lion prides, cheetah, leopard and African wild dog are occasionally encountered, while families of hippo hide in the deeper channels and lagoons that are fed by seasonal rains. The area supports the continent’s largest surviving concentration of elephant and buffalo, while roan and sable antelope are occasionally spotted in the open woodlands.
Experience Activities from Xudum Delta Lodge focus on boat trips and mokoro rides. Dependent of water condition, day and night game drives in fully equipped 4x4 vehicles are also taken, as well as a half-day walk with a Bushman guide to learn how they have adapted to life in this region. This is a birding paradise with over 450 resident and migrating species. The guiding at Xudum is renowned and birdwatchers will enjoy exploring the intricate watery canals.
Location Xudum Delta Lodge, Botswana is located on a private island in an exclusive 25,000-hectare wildlife concession, southeast of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve. Xudum is located along the channels and lagoons along the southern, seasonal portion of the Okavango Delta.
Getting There Most major international airlines from Europe, the United States, Asia and Australia fly to Johannesburg, South Africa, which is the easiest route into Botswana. Maun is the gateway to the Okavango Delta, which is two-hour flight from Johannesburg. Fly into the Xudum airstrip, a mere 20-minute flight from Maun, followed by a 40-minute game drive to the lodge. Please note, light aircraft transfers have 15kg luggage restrictions in soft, squashable bags.
When to go Botswana’s winter months from May to October are dry and cool with chilly nights. Botswana has hot, wet summers from October to April. Botswana has one rainy season which runs between December and February, sometimes continuing into March, with rain generally in the form of afternoon thundershowers. Best time to travel is all year round. There is great fishing from March to December, with catches of tiger fish, bream, catfish and tilapia.
