Day 02 – Safari
Mboma Island We set off on our journey to Mboma Island, in Okavango Delta, via a road transfer and then continue the rest of the way by boat. In the afternoon we swap horsepower for manpower using traditional mokoro’s for our first excursion. A long dugout canoe made out of carved sausage trees and poled by a local river guide, we set out to explore the myriad of waterways in the world's largest inland delta. Glide past secluded palm islands, lagoons scattered with water lilies and hippos and elephants bathing in the clear amber waters.

Travelling by traditional mokoro in this unspoiled water wonderland seems most appropriate and allows for a more intimate encounter within the delta's rich wildlife and its tranquil water. The silent and serene atmosphere of the channel is only broken by the splash of your canoe and the occasional calls of the swamp birds. We spend the night on Mboma Island amid this pristine environment.

The lodge is located directly on the banks of the Khwai River and therefore guests can sit back and relax on the viewing platform whilst Africa's unique array of animals come to them to drink from the waterholes and life sustaining river.

This evening we set out on a night game drive in the concession area and wait with bated breath as the sounds of hysterical hyena cackling fills the night skies and a lion's guttural roar is heard in the distance.
