Cuba Culture & Cycle

Cienfuegos, Cuba’s famous colonial town, lies on the Caribbean coast, in the southern-central part of the country. Once a trading centre for sugar cane, tobacco and coffee, Cienfuegos, is today known for its French neoclassical architecture. The iconic City Hall (former Governors Palace), with its huge dome, sits along the lively Boulevard San Fernando. In front, Parque José Martí (formerly Plaza de Armas), is considered one of the most beautiful. Dominating the park is the grand 19th-century Terry Theatre.

Santa Clara in central Cuba is known for its revolutionary landmarks. It is the resting place of Che Guevara and other fighters. Bicycle through sugar cane plantations and tobacco fields. Visit Catedral de Santa Clara de Asís in city centre or relax on the beautiful Cayo Las Brujas beach. Trek in the nearby Escambray Mountains, and transfer to Trinidad. The old town of Trinidad, known for its 19th century Spanish colonial mansions, plazas and churches.

And, experience spectacular landscapes and the colonial city of Trinidad.

Getting There Virgin Atlantic is the only airline operating direct scheduled flights to Cuba, with two services a week from Gatwick. Various airlines fly to Havana from London via European cities, including Madrid, Paris, Amsterdam and Rome. Air France is the most versatile option, with daily flights from London Heathrow to Havana via Paris. Iberia and KLM also fly from Heathrow, via Madrid and Amsterdam respectively. Other airlines flying direct from European cities.

When to go Cuba is an all year-round destination and there isn't a bad time to visit Cuba. It has primarily a tropical climate where temperature range between 27 C and 32 C and there is a very pleasant breeze. There are only two seasons: the hot and rainy season runs from May to November (May-June are the wettest months) and the dry season (winter) runs from December to April. It is the time when Europeans go there in pursuit of the southern sun. Avoid the hurricanes season (September-October) and the busy periods (July and August) when the Cubans take their holidays.
