This Sri Lanka tour is with the most exclusive and luxurious resorts in Sri Lanka: Tea Trails, Amangalla and Amanwella. It includes iconic Sri Lanka experiences such as visiting a tea plantation, exploring the country’s most interesting colonial-era town, a private game drive in a top wildlife park, and optional trips to an important Buddhist cave temple and other cultural attractions. This tour is recommended for romantic couples.
Begin in Colombo, the vibrant capital of Sri Lanka, a city of contrasts. Opt to sleep in an elegant colonial mansion or a suite at the Hilton, feast at gourmet restaurants or on irresistible street foods, shop at chic boutiques or barter in chaotic Pettah market, pray at holy… you get it. The list goes on and on.
Venture into the Hill Country, where verdant tea plantations cover rolling mountains. Stay at a luxurious Relais & Chateaux-affiliated hotel in a renovated tea planter’s cottage. Learn about tea picking and processing during a tour of a historic tea factory, and sample different types of high-quality Sri Lankan tea. During leisure time, hike through the tea fields or relax by the pool.
Continue to Galle, one of Sri Lanka's most cosmopolitan cities. Famous for its 17th century Dutch Fort, it is possibly the best example of a fortified city built by Europeans in south and southeast Asia, showing the interaction between European architectural styles and south Asian traditions. Stay in the heart of the Galle Fort historic district at Amangalla, one of the finest and most romantic luxury resorts in Sri Lanka. Also, enjoy flexible private excursions to regional highlights such as a sea turtle hatchery, a traditional mask workshop, a lace-making workshop, and the private country estate of Geoffrey Bawa, Sri Lanka’s most acclaimed modern architect.
Next transfer to Tangalle (Tangalla) located just after the jungles of Yala National Park. Relax for a couple of days at Amanwella, an exclusive ultra-luxury resort overlooking a palm tree-shaded beach on the southern coast of Sri Lanka outside Tangalle. If you are travelling between January and July, you can see giant sea turtles coming ashore at night to lay their eggs (esp. Rekawa and Kahandamodara beaches). If you have a free day, then visit Mulkirigala, a fascinating ancient rock temple about 30 minutes inland.
One day, take a private wildlife safari in Yala National Park or another nearby game reserve to look for wild elephants, colourful birds and elusive leopards. During leisure time, swim in your private plunge pool, the infinity-edge main pool or the sparkling water of the Indian Ocean. Or, enjoy optional activities such as whale watching, nature walks, private surfing lessons, and excursions to Buddhist cave temples and other cultural sites.

When to go Sri Lanka is a year-round destination with a tropical climate. However, the best time to go is between December and April when there are less rains and the climate is cooler. It is also the peak time for whale-watching in the south of the island where both blue and sperm whales can be seen. Rains arrive in May and stay until September during which it is hot and humid in the cultural triangle and the west coast. However, the hill country around Nuwara Eliya, Horton Plains and Bandarawela remains cooler. June is a good time to visit the eastern port of Trincomalee, where blue and sperm whales are observed closer to land. There can be rains between September and November.
