Kathmandu & Pokhara
Pokhara is a city located in the foothills of the Annapurna Massif, in central Nepal. Due to its proximity to the Annapurna mountain range, Pokhara is a base for trekkers undertaking various treks in the Annapurna Conservation Area. The city is based on the edge of Phewa Lake, the second largest fresh water lake in Nepal. Tal Barahi Temple, in the centre of Phewa Lake, is dedicated to Hindu god Vishnu. On its eastern shore, the Lakeside district has yoga centres, hotels and restaurants.
Kathmandu valley has both Buddhism and Hinduism; Swayambhunath and Pashupatinath are Hindu temples, and Boudhanath, is a Buddhist stupa, with eyes that you see in posters. Patan, one of 3 royal cities, is a destination for connoisseurs of fine arts. Pokhara, the starting point for over a dozen treks provides vistas of the Annapurna Mountain range. Nearby, town of Dhulikhel, provides breath-taking views of the valley and the snow-capped Himalayas in the distance.

Getting There Kathmandu has an international airport and is easily accessed via flights with Jet Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates and Lufthansa. On arrival, you can exchange your money at a bank just before immigration. Nearby is the visa counter where you can pay for your visa if you haven't got one already. While departing, for an international flight check-in at least two hours before departure, if not earlier as the counter gets busy during high season.
When to go Nepal like the rest of the Gangetic plains has four seasons. The winter in the Himalayas is cold but beginning February, the weather gets warmer and trekkers find forests full of rhododendrons and other flowers in bloom. The heat wave runs through May until the monsoon finally arrives in mid-June. But in September, when the rains stop, the weather is balmy, the air is crisp and the sky is clear; it is the most perfect time to visit Nepal. Visitors, trekkers and mountaineers are rewarded with gorgeous uninterrupted views of the high Himalayas.
