Santa Clara is the capital city of the central Cuban province of Villa Clara. The city is famous as the site of the last historic battle of the Cuban revolution, and its landmarks. Just outside Santa Clara, is the Che Guevara Mausoleum, crowned by a massive statue of the revolutionary leader. Nearby, Museo Histórico de la Revolución has simple exhibits documenting Guevara’s life.

Earlier in the tour, we take a comprehensive tour of Havana. Spend a day exploring the old town of Havana, visiting highlights including Museum of the Revolution, El Capitolio, National Capitol Building before travelling to Viñales Valley. Then travel to Central Cuba; Santa Clara and Trinidad and take a boat to Cayo Largo del Sur. Located south of the mainland in the Caribbean Sea, Cayo Largo offers a wide variety of activities including; walking, riding, fishing, horse riding and water sports.

Cuba Culture Tour Cayo Largo del Sur

Day 1 – Arrive
Havana Meet and greet on arrival at Havana International Airport and transfer to Telegrafo hotel. This is Cuba’s oldest hotel and excellently located a short walk away from the seawall, practically next door to the Capitolo in Old Havana.

Day 2 – City Tour
Havana Take a leisurely horse-drawn carriage ride from the hotel to Arms Square where your guide will take you on a fascinating and informative walk around the old town. You may feel the surreal sensation of being on a film set with the beautiful baroque and neoclassical architecture and outrageous American 50’s cars. Many of the grand buildings have recently been restored and you will sense this city’s imposing Spanish heritage. Visit a cigar factory to learn how the finest cigars in the world are manufactured and to get a few tips on how to assess quality and freshness.

After lunch, your tour continues in style as you take a panoramic tour around modern Havana in a classic American car. You will really feel like you are back in the 50’s – an era of America seemingly frozen in time!

Day 3 – Heritage Tour
Viñales Valley Explore the UNESCO World Heritage listed Viñales Valley. The landscape here integrates haystack-looking mountains, tobacco fields and traditional village structures into a painter’s canvas of overwhelming charm and beauty, all the more pleasurable from the vantage point of your horse-drawn carriage.

Visit one of the most beautiful caves in the area, ‘Indian Cave’ and cruise the hidden river within by boat. Return to your hotel in Havana.

Day 4 – Transfer & Tour
Santa Clara Take a private transfer to the airport for your flight or take a road transfer to Santa Clara City. Meet and greet on arrival and transfer to the Los Caneyes hotel, featuring aboriginal bamboo construction. If time permits, we'll tour the city including Vidal Park, La Caridad provincial library and more. We'll also visit the Ché Guevara Memorial, housing his tomb and museum.

Day 5 – Transfer & Tour
Trinidad With your private guide and driver travel to the Escambray Mountains past lush countryside and a small natural waterfall to the summit. At the top, visit the former hospital transformed into a hotel/health spa, 780 m above sea level. Packed lunch will be provided after a hike to a waterfall, where you can take a refreshing swim before transfer to Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 6 – Island Stay
Cayo Largo del Sur Take a boat transfer to Cayo Largo del Sur. The small island of Cayo Largo is located to the south of the mainland in the Caribbean Sea. A recommended optional excursion for today would be a sailing cruise to some of the outlying cays.

Note: You can only fly to Cayo Largo from Havana or Varadero, not from Trinidad.

Day 7 to 9 – Diving
Cayo Largo del Sur Transfers to and from diving centre. Two immersions per day.

Day 10 – Transfer & Depart
Havana Transfer to Cayo Largo airport and take an internal flight to Havana domestic airport. Transfer from the airport to hotel in Havana City.

Getting There Virgin Atlantic is the only airline operating direct scheduled flights to Cuba, with two services a week from Gatwick. Various airlines fly to Havana from London via European cities, including Madrid, Paris, Amsterdam and Rome. Air France is the most versatile option, with daily flights from London Heathrow to Havana via Paris. Iberia and KLM also fly from Heathrow, via Madrid and Amsterdam respectively. Other airlines flying direct from European cities.

When to go Cuba is an all year-round destination and there isn't a bad time to visit Cuba. It has primarily a tropical climate where temperature range between 27 C and 32 C and there is a very pleasant breeze. There are only two seasons: the hot and rainy season runs from May to November (May-June are the wettest months) and the dry season (winter) runs from December to April. It is the time when Europeans go there in pursuit of the southern sun. Avoid the hurricanes season (September-October) and the busy periods (July and August) when the Cubans take their holidays.
