In the Heart of Rajasthan
Jaisalmer is a former medieval trading centre and a princely state in the western Indian state of Rajasthan. Built in the 12th century, by the Rajput ruler, the Jaisalmer fort stands amidst the sandy expanse of the great Thar Desert, on Trikuta Hill. The desert city, also known as "The Golden city"), spread on a ridge of yellowish sandstone, is crowned by a fort, which contains the Maharaja's Palace and several ornate Jain temples.
Beginning in Jodhpur, transfer to Jaisalmer, once a major stop for silk and spice caravans. Walk through sandstone backstreets, explore Jaisalmer fort, which contains the palace and several ornate Jain temples.
