Discover Cuba

Trinidad, Cuba’s historic city, is known for its well-preserved colonial town and Spanish heritage. Its Plaza Mayor is surrounded with churches, repurposed colonial mansions and museums. Municipal History Museum, housed in the beautiful neoclassical Palacio Cantero exhibits colonial and revolutionary artefacts. From the top of its tower and from the pretty yellow and green bell tower of the nearby St. Francis of Assisi Convent, offer beautiful views of the city.

Earlier in the tour, travel west to Las Terraza & Vinales Valley at the heart of Cuba's tobacco-growing region. The region is known for activities including hiking, biking, caving and more. Casa de Caridad Botanical Gardens, northeast of town, features a mix of ornamental and medicinal plants and orchids. Cienfuegos, on the southern coast is known for its colonnaded central zone with its stately Paseo del Prado and central park. Stretching out into the bay is Punta Gorda, with eclectic palaces.

Review

After a short introduction of Havana, take a private tour to Viñales Valley, surrounded by Karst formations 400m high. Adventure enthusiasts can explore its numerous caves, inside which are dripstone and rock art. The valley is much smaller in size in comparison to China's Yangshuo, Guilin, but driving into this valley by road is a spectacular sight.

Continue to Cienfuegos, Cuba’s so called Pearl of the South. Founded in the early 19th century, it became an outstanding example of an architectural ensemble representing the new ideas of modernity, and order in urban planning as developed in Latin America.

Relax on the beach at Playa Ancon and explore the UNESO world heritage site of Trinidad. Then spend the last days touring the vibrant city of Havana. Explore its colonial heritage and political past, delight in the contemporary hustle and bustle of the Caribbean markets, and, enjoy the fascinating, colourful traditions of the local Cubans.

Take a leisurely horse-drawn carriage or ride the classic cars of Cuba. With an estimated 60,000 vintage cars (Yank Tanks) still in Cuba, these old classics are a tribute to the nostalgia of the old days. Stay in some of the best hotels recently restored from old buildings of Spanish heritage and enjoy Cuba like never before.
Getting There

Virgin Atlantic is the only airline operating direct scheduled flights to Cuba, with two services a week from Gatwick.

Various airlines fly to Havana from London via European cities, including Madrid, Paris, Amsterdam and Rome. Air France is the most versatile option, with daily flights from London Heathrow to Havana via Paris. Iberia and KLM also fly from Heathrow, via Madrid and Amsterdam respectively. Other airlines flying direct from European cities include Cubana, KLM, Air Berlin and Air Europa. Though Cubana tends to offer the least expensive flights on the market, they have a justified reputation for overbooking, overzealous enforcement of the baggage weight limit.

When to go Cuba is an all year round destination and there isn't a bad time to visit Cuba. It has primarily a tropical climate where temperature rarely falls below 27 degrees C (81 F) and reaches a maximum 32 C (90 F) and although hot all year round, there is a very pleasant breeze.

There are only two seasons: the hot and rainy season runs from May to November (May-June are the wettest months) and the dry season (winter) runs from December to April. It is the time when Europeans go there in pursuit of the southern sun. Avoid the peak hurricanes season (September-October) and the busy periods (July and August) when the Cubans take their holidays.

Visas Make sure you get the right visa for your visit. As well as tourist visas, there are other visa categories for different types of travellers. If you’re entering Cuba as a tourist, you’ll need to get a tourist card before you travel.

Passport validity: Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. No additional period of validity beyond this is required.
